Depending on the area of expertise, the area of action of the agricultural engineer can be located at all stages of the agricultural production chain, whether it is the creation of non-polluting agricultural equipment, research for the strengthening of the resistance of a plant species or the selection of plant productions. His knowledge is essential from the design stage to that of the sale of the product.
The primary missions of the agronomist are as follows:
- It is responsible for ensuring the improvement of soil production techniques, taking into account their nature and characteristics. An engineer by training, acts as an expert consultant to various structures, both in the public and private sectors.
- When contributing to the design of a product or a service, he intervenes at each stage of the production chain.
- The agricultural engineer is mandated to carry out regular contracts on the product even after its marketing.
- Thus, he practices in the field (directly with farmers) or with a chamber of agriculture (in the laboratory). In the latter case, it can be at the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), at IRAD (Institute Of Agricultural Research For Development) or in the agro-food industry. The term “agricultural engineer” covers a wide range of fields and specializations.
